I could not help the tender moments as I wandered through Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. With Memorial Day coming this weekend it seemed appropriate that I found myself wandering in the cemetery. I was with my brother and his wife, and carrying my camera, as I often do. I'd been to DC many times and for some reason, never been there. The weather was very pleasant and the cemetery was beautifully kept. We arrived at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in time to witness the changing of the guard. There were tourists surrounding much of the plaza so I didn't bother to photograph the solemn event, but when the changeover was complete I was able to capture the single soldier as he marched back and forth with quiet dignity and expert military bearing. I also captured some of the many white gravestones that dotted the lawns around me. I tried to imagine what the soldiers looked like and what they might have experienced, but all I could conjure up were scenes from the many war movies I'd seen over the years. None the less I was moved by what I saw and the thoughts of what these soldiers, who's lives were cut short, had done for us.
